Small Business
The development of small business such as the sale of craft products, ecotourism and agroforestry is vital for the development of economic stability in these fragile communities. By providing access to alternative technologies or methods of production, training and “soft loans” VERDE MILENIO will support the development of a variety of small business opportunities which hopefully will result in the development of sustainable alternatives to the destruction of the rainforest, whilst at the same time providing valuable income and improving the lives of the people who live within these communities.
It is likely that projects will include:
- Art/Craft workshops
- Agroforestry
- Permaculture
- Commercial agriculture
- Breeding programmes (to replace hunting of rare species)
- Co-operative saving schemes and development of community credit opportunities
- Development of a barter system within and between communities.
